My son, Scott, attended tutoring for maths with Brian this year. My son said Brian created a welcoming and friendly atmosphere which encouraged asking questions and a positive approach to learning. Brian was very good at breaking down equations, step by step so they were easy to understand and often used other concepts which appealed to my son. Brian introduced him to the On Track Tuition maths website (ontrackmaths.com) which was very helpful for additional studying. Scott achieved an A band 1 for his Higher maths, it's clear that Brian's skilful and professional approach to tutoring enabled Scott achieve this top mark. Thank you Brian.

Brian was an excellent Maths tutor for my son and I have no hesitation recommending him.
My son had performed very badly in his school Maths exam and by the time Brian started working with him he had almost given up any hope of ever passing his National Five, let alone achieving a high 'B' (1 mark below an 'A').
Instead, with Brian's help he gained understanding and, more importantly, confidence. Brian was always very well prepared, using a variety of appropriate material and he set and corrected homework to consolidate his lessons. The lessons were well planned, yet he was happy to deviate from them as and when requested by my son. He was consistently patient, thorough and caring. His style was professional yet friendly and approachable.

I would highly recommend Brian as a tutor to anyone. His style and approach is very effective when it comes to teaching his clients. The relationship between Tutor and student also seems to be just as important as the out-right teaching; Brian will ask the pupil what they feel they are struggling with while simultaneously finding out for himself what seems to be the main concerns. I am glad that Brian was there to help me as it allowed to me to attain a grade in a subject in which my confidence was quite low. When I found out that I had made it into the university of my choice, I could not thank him enough.

Our son Stewart was having difficulty last year keeping up with higher maths and his confidence in actually remaining with the higher level was quickly diminishing, on speaking with his maths teacher at Rosshall Academy he suggested that Stewart would benefit from one to one tuition luckily for us he recommended Brian McGarvie. Brian very quickly established a working plan for our son to help him overcome his initial fears that he would not be able to fully understand the course content and after a few weeks his confidence gained and he was tackling Maths with a better outlook than before. Brian is a very reliable tutor and gives that bit extra his approach with our son was excellent and he always gave us feedback (even the negative) after every lesson. I am really pleased to say that Stewart gained his Higher Maths last year and we are certain that this would not have been achieved without Brian’s very welcome input.
